This collection of scholarship expands upon the discussions initiated during our October 2024 seminar, “The National Firearms Act: A Discussion on Its Historical and Legal Relationship with the Second Amendment.”
Firearms Research Center’s Senior Fellow David Kopel‘s article Machine Gun History and Bibliography offers a comprehensive introduction to the history of machine guns, beginning with the Gatling gun of the Civil War and tracing their development through World War II, the Cold War, and into the modern era. Kopel also explores the legal landscape surrounding machine guns, outlining key federal laws and providing a bibliography of important resources for further study.
