Without a firearm preemption law, Ohioans faced a confusing patchwork of gun regulations that varied from city to city. Seeking uniformity, the Ohio General Assembly enacted R.C. 9.68 in 2007, which preempts municipal firearm ordinances. This note examines the origins of R.C. 9.68, its amendments in 2019, 2022, and 2025, and the legal challenges it has faced.
