The Firearms Research Center recently hosted Virtual Seminar No. 19 featuring historian, historic arms expert, and PBS’s Antiques Roadshow appraiser Joel Bohy.
Drawing from his research for Bullet Strikes from the First Day of the American Revolution, Joel demonstrated how archaeology, forensic science, ballistics, and historical documentation can be combined to reconstruct the events of April 19, 1775. The presentation examined surviving bullet strikes in historic buildings, recovered battlefield artifacts, and experimental firearms testing to better understand the fighting at Lexington, Concord, and along the British retreat to Boston.
The seminar also explored the firearms used by both British and provincial forces, the role of smoothbore ballistics in interpreting battlefield evidence, and how modern forensic techniques continue to reveal new information about one of the most significant days in American history.
